About
The Peacework Safe Girls Campaign aims to attack the roots of human trafficking and empower children to take control of their futures.
Direct intervention can be very risky, and there are other effective options that alleviate and counteract the traps of trafficking. According to the UNICJRI, “the main causes of trafficking in persons are poverty, illiteracy and lack of economic prospects.” One of the most vulnerable populations is young people who are coming to the end of their residence and care in children’s homes, boarding schools, and orphanages. These children rarely have the skills and education to pursue economic independence and self-determination.
Since 1989, Peacework has sponsored projects to support children in residential and treatment institutions around the world. For the past 8 years, we have conducted a program in financial literacy with a global top-3 accounting and business development firm. This curriculum promotes entrepreneurship and economic independence around the world. We partner with universities and students around the world to develop and enact these programs worldwide, to empower young people in vulnerable situations to create a bright future.
We believe in empowering children and communities through education to fight human trafficking before it starts.
