Chiang Rai, Thailand
The Chiang Rai province rests at the top of Thailand. With poor border regulation, traffickers are able to easily transport slaves in and out of the country, so the poor in Chiang Rai are particularly at-risk for being trafficked.
Last year, Peacework Safe Girls Campaign began working with Keep Girls Safe, an ADRA initiative that runs a girls’ shelter in Chiang Rai and focuses on building self-reliance in young children to lift them out of oppression. In May 2018, we sent a team from the University of South Florida assist the development of the shelter and host educational workshops.
Our Partner
Keep Girls Safe’s Program Coordinator, Sunita Winitkoonchai, works closely with us when planning service trips to Chiang Rai. Currently, the program is working on strengthening their community outreach initiatives and fundraising. They are also developing a business with the goal of financially sustaining the shelter.
We are currently looking for volunteers to send a team to Chiang Rai next year. This service trip would include hosting anti-trafficking workshops and helping Keep Girls Safe develop a business model for their new business.
